FASTER then any other email service know to man or woman!
In many of my classes I speak about how you can set up a "Hot" email address. This allows an email to come to your Smartphone as a text message within seconds after a person sends you an email. In most of my testing it's less then 20 seconds, this depends on your email host.
First hopefully you have went with an email hosting company that provides you with either unlimited email addresses or at least one hundred. Create an email address like Hot@ YourName.com or Important@ YourName.com.
After you have the new email address go to your web mail account and look for Configuration then Email forwarding. Enter the email to your Smartphone and I suggest check keep a copy of each forwarded email. All phones have an email address, it's your 10 digit phone number followed by one of the addresses below. |
|
AT&T 10-digit @mobile.att.net
Bell Atlantic 10-digit @message.bam.com
Bell Canada 10-digit @txt.bell.ca
Cellular One 10-digit @mobile.cellonusa.com
Comcast 10-digit @comcastpcs.textmsg.com
Fido 10-digit @fido.ca
Nextel 10-digit @messaging.nextel.com
Rogers 10-digit @pcs.rogers.com
Sprint 10-digit @messaging.sprintpcs.com
TELUS 10-digit @msg.telus.com
T-Mobile 10-digit @tmomail.net
Verizon 10-digit @vtext.com
Virgin Mobile 10-digit @vmobl.com
If the address for your provider is not listed, try Teleflip:
10-digit @teleflip.com. Teleflip is a generic service that
works for most phones.
The email is converted into text messaging with each text being 160 characters. You normally can read the first 160 characters and decide whether you need to download the entire email using your email program or it can wait until you get to your computer.
Be sure you have unlimited text with your carrier so your not hit with a huge bill at the end of the month.

Have you flown lately? What a mess the airline industry is becoming! I think I am qualified to comment on flying as last year I flew 180 flights and over 1,000 flights in 6 years. Even being a educated flier I am at wits end trying to make flights work and pay a fair price. Last week I had a flight that was delayed 20 minutes due to "Carry On Luggage". Yes the public doesn't want to pay $15 to check that bag so they bring their 50 pound bag onto the plane only to learn it doesn't fit.
Prices, yes I understand the price of oil and the airlines have to make money to operate. I have turned into quite the shopper, look at other airports, different times and dates. I need to fly to San Francisco Sunday so I checked 5 different airports and all the major carriers, I bought a ticket for $438. The prices ranged from $438 to $1,200 most in the $600 to $800 range.
Luggage, pack as light as you can so you have a carry on that fits under your seat if needed. I have always carried a soft bag which I can stuff into small places. Ladies, do you really need 5 pairs of shoes for a 3 day trip? Maybe I shouldn't go there.
Get on the plane fast, I fly mostly with one airline, yep I the guy in first class with a free upgrade. Join the airline frequent flier programs, get a credit card from the airline, this will let you board early to grab overhead space.
Bring your patience; the employees of the airlines are in a bad situation. They don't set prices or schedule flights so don't take your frustrations out on them.
Never book the last flight leaving or arriving in a city, your asking for trouble with missed connections.
Hope this helps!

Just got an email from an agent who's Smartphone might have taken a beating at the beach and I wanted to pass along some thoughts.
Sand is not a friend to electronics, the sand can get in behind keys and buttons causing them to not work!
If you use a stylus with your device the sand dust will grind your screen leaving permanent scratches on the glass.
Putting them in a plastic bag might not be the answer either, if there is moisture in the bag you are giving your phone a sauna.
You might look better with a tan but your Smartphone doesn't. Direct sun heating up the device can ruin the screen. Now don't panic, we are not talking a few minutes in the sun doing damage.
Oh suntan lotion is tough to clean off buttons and keys.
The biggest thing to remember your Smartphone is not amphibious. Use care and common sense and you should be fine.

If you read my other blog about the Treo 755p and infrared keyboards you will know I have challenged the manufactor of the expandable keyboard when they fail to list the Treo 755p and Centro. So I went into my lab, put on my white smock, gloves and safety glasses and beamed the keyboard into a Centro. To my delight and without the Centro blowing up the marriage of the keyboard and the Centro passed the test with flying colors.

So if you have a Centro and want a Infrared Keyboard go buy the 3169ww at your local electronics retailer or online.

I just got an email from an agent who was shopping for the Infrared Keyboard I use and cover in my classes. She went into a Best Buy to pick one up and was told they do not have a IR keyboard that works with her Treo 755p. It so happens I have Treo 755p here in my pile and the Palm model number 3196ww IR keyboard. After loading the software into the 755 all the functions work correctly.
In my opinon, I think somebody is attempting to market their new $99 Bluetooth keyboard to make current owners of the 3196ww upgrade. Also new buyers spend $30 more to get the Bluetooth when the IR not only is cheaper but I need to check on one fact. The phone manufactors state the phone will only work with one Bluetooth device at a time. So if you are entering information with your keyboard and on the phone using Bluetooth one of them isn't going to work, (I think).
I plan on testing the Centro soon, the one from my pile is missing as we loaned it to a family friend.
Here's what you need to look for;

I have been writing about how the carriers are battling and we have another victim this morning. Verizon announced over night they are buying Alltel. About 18 months ago I read an article which said we will have only 3 wireless carriers in the US shortly, well we are down now to 4 majors.
Sprint gobbled up Nextel, Verizon adding Alltel that leaves justone more to go, T-Mobile. It was rumored last year T-mobile was looking for investors from across the pond but nobody would bite. With T-Mobile being GSM (Group Special Mobile) the only US company that could swallow them without too much pain is AT&T. GSMis the worldwide standard with 82% of the world operating on that format, just to give you something to think about the GSM Association says 3 Billion people in 212 countries use GSM.
So other then AT&T who might be interested in T-Mobile? Rogers from Canada or an European group wanting to enter the US market. If that were to happen it would be good for all of us as we would then have a strong 4th company offering cell service in the US.
For those Alltel user out there relax it will be months before you notice any changes. Wonder what Chad from the TV commercials will do now?
